Opportunities to Evaluate Blackboard Replacement Candidates

April 4th, 2011 IMG Posted in Outdated Comments Off on Opportunities to Evaluate Blackboard Replacement Candidates

Reminder: Auburn University must have a new Learning Management System in place by December of 2012 since Blackboard will no longer support or license Blackboard Vista effective January of 2013.

A Learning Management System Working Group (LMSWG) composed of faculty and IT staff has been reviewing possible replacements for Blackboard. The LMSWG has narrowed the choices to two: Desire 2 Learn (D2L) and Instructure’s Canvas (for details about the process, please see more information at http://www.auburn.edu/img/lms/).

The LMSWG believes it vital that faculty members have a chance to review each of these LMS and share comments. We have arranged several opportunities for faculty members to learn about and to evaluate Canvas and D2L:

1. Watch recordings of the “intro-to” webinars

2. Participate in On-Campus Presentations:

Instructure Canvas April 11 & 12, 2011

Desire 2 Learn April 19 & 20, 2011

3. View a recording of one of the On-Campus Presentations.

Details of the on-campus presentations, links to the video recordings, a comparison of the two systems, and links to the online feedback form are all available here:

http://www.auburn.edu/img/lms/

We strongly encourage you to participate in one of these opportunities and to share your comments with the LMSWG using the online feedback form, the paper forms available at the presentations, or by contacting the LMSWG Chair, Dr. Kathy McClelland, Manager, IMG.
