From Turnitin:

Turnitin service may be intermittently unavailable during a scheduled maintenance period on Saturday, June 16th, from 9 AM to 1 PM. An announcement will appear for users inside Turnitin in advance of when the system will be unavailable for this scheduled maintenance.

Instructors are encouraged to modify assignment due dates either before or at least several hours after the scheduled maintenance window.

Turnitin 2 has officially launched and offers a cleaner, more organized originality report interface. The complete list of changes for the plagiarism prevention tools on Turnitin is available online.

Please keep in mind the Auburn license covers only plagiarism prevention tools, but not Peermark or GradeMark.

What is new in Turnitin 2

“Turnitin2 is a new, enhanced version of WriteCycle. Turnitin2 will have the same features as WriteCycle; however, thanks to our customers’ suggestions and ideas, Turnitin2 will have greatly improved usability and functionality. Turnitin2 integrates our three essential instructional support tools: OriginalityCheck plagiarism prevention, GradeMark paperless grading and PeerMark peer reviewing. With Turnitin2, you will:

• Work with a single, “all-in-one” view of a student’s paper in its original format, including styled text, graphics and photos.
• Save time and increase productivity with improved tools and a unified user interface.

Current Turnitin and WriteCycle users of the English version will automatically see the improvements when they log in beginning on August 21. Additional versions in our ten other supported languages are in development and will be announced as the dates become available. Turnitin will be unavailable on Saturday July 11, 2009 from 10:00 am CDT to 10:00 pm CDT for routine system maintenance.

Turnitin will be unavailable on both Saturday, December 20th and Tuesday December 30th, from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM CST for routine system and hardware maintenance and upgrades.

We are pleased to announce Turnitin Global with vastly IMPROVED and
EXPANDED handling of non-English languages!

Turnitin Global now handles text correctly in 31 languages in
addition to English:

Arabic, Catalan, Chinese (simplified and traditional), Croatian,
Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew,
Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian (Bokmal, Nynorsk),
Farsi, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak,
Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, Turkish

This means that papers submitted via global.turnitin.com will
generate an Originality Report with no question marks or odd
character strings replacing “special” characters.

This also means we are indexing many additional websites that contain
those languages against which we compare submitted papers.

To try this capability, you must sign in through global.turnitin.com
(using your regular login information).  Anything that is created or
submitted through global.turnitin.com will also be available in
www.turnitin.com (albeit with the current service’s text display
limitations).

By the end of October, this capability will be fully operational for
all Turnitin users without having to use global.turnitin.com.

Note that while we are in the process of translating the Turnitin
interface into many languages, it has not yet been translated to each
of the above languages.  Watch for additional announcements.

Note also that we do not translate the paper that is submitted in any
way (e.g. we don’t translate it to English and try to find more
matches).

Turnitin will be unavailable Friday, June 27th, 2008 from 9:00 PM  to 1:00 AM while the site undergoes critical system maintenance.
