In past Tech Bits, we have shared many wonderful open source (free!) programs to enhance your teaching. However, hardware cannot be downloaded for free and often comes with a steep price tag. IMG has recently expanded our available equipment inventory and now offers many new items for instructors to check-out.

Interested in video lecture capture? Then check-out a Flip Video Camera or HD camcorder. How about narrated PowerPoint or podcasts? We have both wireless lavaliere mics and USB headsets available. Would you like more student feedback in the classroom? We have over 40 clickers available.

Call us at 844-5181 and we’ll be glad to discuss what hardware will best suit your teaching needs. And, of course, there is no charge for using our equipment.

Fall workshops for October are now available for registration. IMG introduces two more workshops: KompoZer and Podcasting through Keynote. KompoZer is an open source (free!) alternative to Dreamweaver that novice webmasters will find easier to use. KompoZer can be used to develop new sites or edit/modify existing sites. The Keynote workshop will help participants learn to design presentations, add narration, and create podcasts using Keynote. Participants will need to bring a Mac with Keynote 09 installed.

IMG also offers Blackboard Quick Starts, PowerPoint 2007 refreshers, and other podcasting workshops as well.

IMG will be closed between 11 AM and 2 PM on Thursday, May 7th, 2009. 

To help faculty prepare for Summer semester, IMG will offer two Blackboard Quick Starts just before classes begin.

The workshops are scheduled for:

9:00 AM on Tuesday, May 19th
1:00 PM on Wednesday, May 20th

IMG will be closed Friday, March 13th. We will reopen Monday, the 16th, and maintain regular hours during the Spring Break week.

The Instructional Multimedia Group is offering two workshop series for Spring semester: Adobe Dreamweaver and Podcasting. The Dreamweaver workshop is comprised of three parts with an optional advanced session (prior Dreamweaver experience required for advanced session). The Podcasting workshops allow participants to create a podcast (audio or video) using a PC or Mac. These podcasts can then be uploaded into Authenticated iTunes. IMG will close at 2 PM on Wednesday, Dec. 17th to attend an OIT meeting. IMG will close for the holidays at 2 PM on Friday, Dec. 19, 2008 and re-open at 7:45 AM on January 5, 2009. No in-person or phone support will be available during that time. However, limited e-mail support will be available over the holiday period.

Since Fall semester is over half way through, now is a good time to begin thinking about Spring semester. A Blackboard Quick Start is scheduled for November 17th at 10 AM if you always wanted to use Blackboard, but didn’t know where to start.

The IMG will remain open until 4:45 PM on December 18th and re-open at 7:45 AM on January 3rd.
